John McCain’s campaign store will sell you a personalized, 3′x6′, outdoor banner for $250. What a steal, right? McCain supporter Craig Brownstein just had to have one. Brownstein, styling himself a “Proud Gay Democrat,” ponied up the $250 and sat back with the satisfied glow that comes only from acting out internalized homophobia by licking the boots of the oppressor.
Imagine Brownstein’s disappointment when he learned that his slogan wouldn’t fly with the McCain campaign. As far as I’ve noticed, none of the many bloggers commenting on the story mention whether McCain refunded Brownstein’s $250. If he does get his money back, I suggest he put it toward having his forehead tattooed with the slogan Kick Me Hard.
Alternately, I’ll be glad to sell Craig Brownstein, for the bargain basement price of $200, a 3′x6′ outdoor banner bearing essentially the same slogan he requested: “PROUD TO BE A DUMBASS.”
He should have read the disclaimer “Demeaning or derogatory names or phrases are not acceptable”. Not that “Proud Gay Democrat” in and of itself is demeaning or derogatory, but “Proud Gay Democrat for McCain” certainly is…
