There will be a protest Sunday at the Mormon Temple in Newport Beach, California:
MORMON TEMPLE NEWPORT BEACH 10am Nov 16 DEMONSTRATION
Peaceful Demonstration–PLEASE PASS THIS ON
Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008 at 10 a.m.
at the Mormon Temple in Newport Beach, Calif.
This will be HUGE – Come be a part of civil rights history!
We must expose those whose agenda is to eliminate the fundamental right of same-sex couples to marry by incorporating their religious beliefs into the
California Constitution. The Mormon Church led the support of Proposition 8 with 40% of the financing. This peaceful demonstration will communicate that:
• We intend to continue this fight for equality until it is won
• Discrimination in any form is harmful to our society
• Our Constitution guarantees equal protection of fundamental rights for all
• We insist on an impermeable separation between church and state
LOCATION: The Mormon Temple and Chapel, 2300 Bonita Canyon Dr., at the
corner of Bonita Canyon and Prairie Rd., in Newport Beach. Located just west of
the 73 toll road; exit Bonita Canyon Dr.; or turn east onto Bonita Canyon Dr. from MacArthur Blvd.
PARKING: We urge everyone to arrive early and park in the Bonita Canyon Sports Park, which is off Prairie Rd., opposite St. Matthew’s Catholic Church and across the street from the Mormon Temple. Drive past the ballpark to the parking lot on the right. There’s also limited street parking. Please DO NOT park at the shopping center at San Miguel and Ford.
BRING: Signs & banners expressing your support for Marriage Equality and Civil Rights, and your outrage at the Yes on 8 Campaign tactics supported by the Mormon Church. American, rainbow and California flags, water.
DRESS for a hot, sunny day. Wear sunscreen, wide-brimmed hat. Call 949-683-2715 for additional information.
I hope you are kidding, Bob although your sense of humor leaves much to be desired.
I’ve never felt the need to delete anybody’s comment before, but I’m afraid bob’s comment had to go. I assume he was being sarcastic, but I didn’t think his advocacy of violence — sincere or not — was very funny, either.
It was his racist comment that ticked me off.
He was obviously a Mormon or Mormon sympathizer, who wanted to equate a peaceful protest in front of a Mormon temple to racism and violence.
Just keep it peaceful, and please respect the property. There will be a lot of people there for Church that day since the Newport Stake Center is right next to the temple. The temple itself will be closed.
I don’t know, Sean, maybe it’s just me but, if you’re a Mormon who voted, “Yes” on prop 8 or supported it in any way, you have a lot of nerve coming here to ask for ANYTHING.
“Keep it peaceful” is always good advice, and if “respect the property” means don’t vandalize or litter, I agree with that, too. Considering the profound disrespect the Mormons have shown to us and our families, though, I can’t imagine any gay person in his right mind pretending there’s anything *sacred* about any Mormon house of worship.
Earthlingblues, I can’t imagine any person in their right mind thinking that (if your a guy) putting your **** in another guys butt is sacred love. The last week I have just laughed that you have spent so much energy protesting against some small religion, that most people find weird anyway. Like they are going to be able to change anything and solve any of your a-sexual relationship problems. This is a stupid attempt for attention and media time that everyone is getting sick of and proves that many gays do have a hidden agenda. If you disagree with what happened go fight the system. My neighbor wants to marry his sister, why don’t you invite him to your protest so maybe he can get that right too. You have shown that you are far bigger bigots towards the mormons than they are you. idiots.

Thank you, yeson8. No matter how many times I say our opponents are a bunch of shit-for-brains bigots, it’s just not as effective as having an actual example on display.
Yes, I am LDS. While I am for man-woman marriages, I made a promise to my best friend, who is gay, that I would not vote yes or no. He respects my opinions, and found what I did, as did his friends, to me extremely honorable. He knows I couldn’t have voted no. Anyway, why haven’t there been protest at the First AME Baptist church up in Watts? Blacks got the vote through, not the Mormons.
Sean, I probably should write a post about why Mormons in particular have been blamed for Prop 8. It seems to genuinely perplex many of you, so maybe some explanation is in order.
I wonder, why though, you think you *couldn’t* have voted no? Because it would violate the teachings of your church, or because you have personally and thoughtfully arrived at the conclusion that your best friend is not entitled to the same civil rights that you enjoy?
I’d be violating what I know is right. I’ve only been a member of the church 5 years.
But yes, 2% of the voters were Mormon, so heck, blame them. Did a lot of the donations come from members? Sure, but remember, the No on 8 camp raised more money than the Yes on 8 group.
Anyway, go do your protest. Don’t think it’s going to change anything. Reminds me of little kids who didn’t get their way, so they have to yell, scream, and vandalize until they do.
And Mormons remind me of — no, are — adults who ought to know better, but spend millions of dollars and man-hours sponsoring a campaign of hate and fear, bearing false witness against their neighbors, all to get their way in the matter of depriving their fellow citizens of equal rights under the law.
Then they make condescending remarks about the people they’ve harmed being like little kids who don’t get their way.
That’s a fine church you’ve joined, there, Sean. Really fine.
Ugh. I’m so sorry you have to put up with this kind of prejudiced crap day after day, year in year out, Bill.
This “you didn’t win so stop being babies” argument shows their further hypocrisy. When the legislature voted, did they shut up and take it? No. When the GOP-stacked Supreme Court made their decision that marriage must be equal, did they shut up and take it? No. I guess one’s reaction depends on whether you are on the winning or losing side. Thankfully, time and history is on our side.
As for yeson8’s comment about putting one’s cock in another man’s butt isn’t sacred, he obviously hasn’t been doing it right.
When do we start protesting at the Baptist Church in Compton. Their pastor told all his flock to vote YES on 8? Someone please organize it so we can all attend!!!
Or I just read above about going to the AME Baptist Church. Lets do it!! They all voted yes too. We could have a great protest there. Set a time and lets get it together.
Is this how we are suppose to protest?

So who are the non violent ones again?
David: No church’s participation in the Yes on 8 campaign of fear and hate has compared to that of the Mormon hate group. And by the way, “AME Baptist” doesn’t even make sense.
Greg: Certainly not. Nobody should behave in that manner.
It should be noted, though, that while you can produce a very few examples of gay people behaving badly in response to this attack on our rights, the *entire* Yes on 8 campaign behaved badly in their unprovoked attack of lies and disinformation about others, and did so without any threat whatsoever to their own rights. And every Mormon ward in California was involved in it.
It should also be noted that the behavior of the church that was targeted by Bash Back is much worse than the behavior of the Bash Back group toward that church.
Any time I read someone saying something like, “How can you imagine that one man putting his penis into another man is real/sacred love, eeeeew” my response is, “So, do you ALWAYS imagine other people having sex? Do you do that with heterosexual people too? Isn’t the problem YOUR preoccupation with how other people make love? What kind of pervert ARE you, that you spend your time trying to picture people having sex??”
I also call this the “Ick factor.” It’s summed up pretty much as, “If it icks me out, then I can’t let anyone else do it.”
Reminds me of when I was ten and found out how sex was accomplished. My first outraged reaction: “My parents are Christians, and they would NEVER do something that disgusting!”
In other words — it’s the people who can’t get over their own “Ick factor” who are the real children who haven’t yet grown up.
AME Baptist is the largest black baptist church here in SoCal. I believe Freddy Price the head of their group. 70% of all blacks who voted, voted yes on prop 8. Regardless if the LDS church’s members donated a large amount of money (the church itself donated 500,000, compared to the Knights of Columbus’s , a Catholic group, 1.4 million), the No on 8 camp raised more, and had Hollywood backing them. Comparing commercials, guess who’s commercials I saw more? That would be the No people again. The No people had more exposure, more publicity, etc. The polls before Nov. 4th were twisted in the media to show that the No people were winning. In the end, people just voted for what they knew was right.
But I’m glad this protest was an overall peaceful one, and no one got hurt.
Anyone want to come help this week with assisting fire victims here in Anaheim Hills, Yorba Linda, Brea, Diamond Bar?
Kashicat, or it’s like when you try to put two negative sides of a magnet together, they repel. Two of the same make a negative reaction, it’s scientific law. And it’s my right to think that. It’s my right to stand up for incest, polygamy, homosexuality, pedophiles, immorally. ITS MY RIGHT. God bless America. But I didn’t come into your homes and picket on your doorstep or your gay group buildings, I casted a vote. So if you have a problem with it, take it to the courts. Stop blaming a tiny group of people for your loss. The fact of the matter is, California doesn’t want it. It wasnt for the mormons, or jews, or catholics, or jehovas witnesses. It was their own choice. You make the american people out to be such freakin idiots. If the mormons are so “manipulating”, why didn’t John Mccain win? Mormons are by far more republican than democrat, so how come they wern’t able to influence the presidential vote. Because this is what the people wanted. Even Elton John thinks these actions are ridiculous. You’re just making a mockery of yourself. I drove by the mormon church on Sunday and walked over to spectate, and I found it absurd, how every single person that drove out of there was called a “bigot” or “hate mongerer”. or signs saying mormons are the horror of the earth, While they’re families and children drove by. Talk about generalizing and bigotry. The worst hypocracy I have ever seen. You don’t know what those people voted for or what they’re about. You people make me sick. Get a life and grow up.
Hey, yeson8
If you’re wondering why people keep calling you a bigot…I’m thinking you might need to look up the definition in the dictionary. You are a classic bigot. Your words frame that quite nicely.
I’m not gay but I still think gays deserve the same rights I have. Why should that make me an idiot?
Sean, I really think you’re confused about the African-American churches in Southern California. I don’t know who Freddy Price might be, unless you mean Frederick K. C. Price — but his church is the Crenshaw Christian Center.
Yeson8, I don’t think you’re worth any more of my time, but you just go on and spectate all you want.
Earthling, I do believe you are right. So when do you protest off of Crenshaw? I’m sure there are a few churches on Long Beach Blvd in Compton. Maybe South-Central?
There are a lot of reasons why people are protesting the Mormons more than other groups. You really ought to be aware of those reasons, but I’m willing to take you at your word that you’re not. I’m going to try to get a post up on that subject in the next couple days.
